Health classes explained
Underwriting tiers (Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard) label your risk according to the carrier's guidelines. Younger and healthier applicants typically land in Preferred; those with health conditions or higher weight may be in Standard or lower. Each quote shows where you fall.
Insurers organize term life pricing using rate class tiers. Exact titles shift from one company to another, yet the structure stays the same: Preferred Plus (sometimes labeled Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard, with table ratings applied to applicants presenting above-standard risk. Those who use tobacco occupy their own set of classes, charged at higher rates.
What underwriters look at
Build (your height and weight), blood pressure and cholesterol numbers, your medical history including any diagnoses, and your family's health background. The carrier uses these to decide your rate class.
How to use the quote tool
The health question asks you to describe yourself honestly: Excellent means no known health issues; Good means minor issues that are controlled; Fair means ongoing conditions requiring treatment; Poor means significant or multiple serious conditions. Your honest answer helps carriers match you with the right underwriting process.
Susman Insurance Agency can connect you with carriers that have favorable guidelines for applicants who may not qualify for the best rates with all insurers.
